Prior to reading this, I honestly did not realize as to how much China had to offer for people living there or for the tourist who is there just to visit. This gives you a complete rundown of what sites are available and where to find certain types of food as well as the best places for it.

As most of us tourist know, it is hard to plan without knowing what is all available for us. With this, it gives you a breakdown of where to see what and when. I received this product for free in exchange for my review.

One person found this helpful. I really like the way this book is organized. It lets me plan a trip based on pre-planned itineraries, or by specific interest ancient history, natural wonders, etc. And, the book is filled with beautiful, color pictures. This book also has a lot of practical information in it: The sections on essential culture and phrases are also extremely practical.

This book covers the basics and more for anyone visiting, or just interested in China. There are photos, a travel itinerary, the best food choices and some transit options for travelers. My favorite parts of the book were the cheat sheets on Chinese language and pronunciation, I also liked the pictures in the book.

I found this manual to be written in an engaging manner, it's decent airplane material. This review is written based on my unbiased opinion. There was no useful info in this book.

The back says it provides hotel and restaurant recommendations - nary a one in the book. I could have gotten what little info the book has simply by googling "travel itineraries for China". Luckily, site has a very generous return policy, and refunded my money and isn't going to make me go through the hassle of packing up the book and shipping it back.

If there were a 'zero stars' choice, this book would get it!!!! We are never going to have enough Wow, close to pages of information and beautiful pictures! We are never going to have enough time to see everything covered in this book, but then I guess China isn't a country you can see in a few days. For the trip I'm planning, my first in China, I'm definitely excited to go to the alternative Great Wall sightseeing location and snap some amazing pictures without the usual tourist crowds.

Thank you for the tip, Wanderlust! What an impressively detailed travel guide. I think we might follow the tailored Beijing-Shanghai itinerary though, since we only have about a week in China even though we want to see everything.

But as big fans of authentic Chinese food, we are definitely going to schedule in three amazing meals a day from the list of restaurants this book suggests: So excited! Very simply written but a good starter for China.

You might want to consider the more specific city guides which are available. See below. More in-depth coverage of these two cities is offered by this guide, including walking tours and nearby attractions, the different sections of the Great Wall, the Watertowns near Shanghai, etc.

Excellent street maps and as in good DK Eyewitness Guide fashion, lots of illustrations and photographs. This guide is light and easy to carry with you, if you are traveling to any of the two cities or both, a definite winner. The "top 10" lists of Beijing offer for example the top temples and monasteries, top museums and galleries, top shopping districts and markets, must-see Olympics sights, highlights of the Great Wall The top 10 lists of Hong Kong include for example, the best views of the skyline, liveliest bars, top sights in Macau, best places to shop, thrilling festivals, and more All throughout my travels in South East Asia more than 20 years ago, the LP always got me out of trouble.

Known as "the backpacker's bible" Lonely Planet Guides are an excellent source for the "do it yourself" traveler. They all do an excellent job at covering their respective areas. Also be aware that the Lonely Planet books are in the "banned list" in China, something to do with the way Taiwan is presented as its own land instead of part of China.
